Learn the Proper Way to Brush Your Teeth at Our Dentistry in Keller TX

There is more to proper teeth brushing than most people realize, so our dentistry in Keller TX shares some important information regarding this daily routine to ensure your smile is getting the best cleaning possible:


Make sure the toothbrush is comfortable in your hand and in your mouth. Using a toothbrush that is the wrong size will result in bad tooth brushing technique.


It’s all in the bristles. A soft bristled brush is what the ADA recommends. If it is too hard you can end up damaging your gums.


How long and how often? 3 is the winning number. Most people brush their teeth twice a day, once in the morning and once at night, but three times for three minutes provides the best results.


Brushing too hard and too many times a day can cause irritation. Brush gently for no more than three times a day.


The technique. Vertical and circular motions provide the best results. Mix it up! Don’t start in the same place every time you start brushing your teeth.


Outside and inside. Too many people forget about the inner side of their teeth while brushing.


Rinse your brush. Your toothbrush can be a breeding ground for bacteria if you don’t rinse your brush after each use.


Let your bristles breath. A toothbrush that is always wet can also be a great place for bacteria to breed. Shake out your brush to try and dry it out after using it.


Change it up. The ADA recommends changing your toothbrush every three to four months. If your bristles look worn they are not doing everything they should be anymore and it’s time for a new brush.
