Our dentist in Keller TX at Esthetique Dental want you to have the healthiest teeth possible, which is why Dr. Patel is sharing tips on how to remove plaque.

In order for your teeth to remain healthy, it is important to remove any and all existing plaque. Plaque is what causes teeth to decay and results in cavities if not removed. It may even progress to gum disease if left untreated.

The most important step to removing dental plaque is to floss daily. Flossing helps to reach the places that the toothbrush cannot. It can remove the plaque that gets caught between the tooth and the gum line, and can help reduce chances of acquiring gum disease.

Dr. Patel highly recommends using a toothpaste containing fluoride. Fluoride helps to better protect the teeth from dental plaque. It is also important to have the right toothbrush, brush at least twice daily, and remember to brush all parts of the teeth/mouth (back, front, top, gums, tongue, etc).

Using mouthwash can also help to prevent dental plaque. Mouthwashes generally kill the bacteria in the mouth, and bacteria are what cause dental plaque. We recommend using mouth wash either before or after you brush your teeth. It definitely can’t hurt to use mouthwash more than once a day.

If dental plaque isn’t removed it can generate tartar or calculus. This is very difficult to remove, and most of the time it is necessary to go to the dentist. Tartar and calculus both require the use of special dental tools to remove.

Be sure to care for your teeth and remove any plaque by brushing and flossing. Don’t let it escalate to anything damaging to your teeth. If you need help or a demonstration on how to remove dental plaque, be sure to contact our dentist in Keller TX by calling 817-741-1240 to schedule an appointment.
