What is a family dentist?

A family dentist has the training, skills, and experience needed to treat patients of all ages including pediatric and senior patients. Family dentists are also skilled in diagnosing issues and identifying risk factors that are more prevalent at different ages. For example, in younger patients, they are trained to observe changes in alignment and bite as the permanent teeth emerge and can recommend orthodontics if necessary. Plus, as a family dentist, we can provide care for all ages, and ensure continual care that can help you maintain optimal oral health as you get older.

How often should dental cleanings be performed?

Ideally, patients of all ages should have a cleaning and checkup every six months. Twice a year visits can help the dentist look for early signs of decay and gum disease, so the office can provide treatment before any issues become more serious and more difficult to treat. Attending regular visits help to maintain an ongoing record of your oral health which helps the doctor provide services that are better customized to each patient's needs as they get older.

Can a family dentist determine if my child needs orthodontic care?

Yes, family dentists are trained in evaluating teeth while children are still young and they can even provide treatments that can help prevent some alignment issues from developing. Which means your child's orthodontic care may be less complex and able to be completed in a shorter period of time.

Are x-rays safe for my child?

Yes, x-rays use a very small amount of radiation and the exposure is very, very low. Dental x-rays are essential in helping patients of all ages, including children, maintain their oral health by identifying decay and other problems inside teeth and even in the jaws, areas that can be seen during a routine visual examination.
